Image analysis of wood anatomy using computer software

At the cellular level, wood anatomy provides new, finer-scale details of the environment.

At CTRS, we measure anatomical characteristics within tree rings to study factors affecting wood density and cell properties such as sizes and shapes. Studies in growing season temperature effects, late spring freeze events, historical floods, and fire injuries. Our lab facilities are equipped for quantitative wood anatomy (QWA) measurements with tissue processing stations (micro-sectioning, staining, light microscopy), precision scanning instruments, software (e.g., Roxas, WinCell), and more.
